    Occupational Standard: 3.The Deck Officer should be able to carry out successfully watch-keeping duties and routine procedures on board and in port as required by STCW 78 as amended.
     
    Language Learning Outcome: 3.A The learner should be able to demonstrate the knowledge to execute successfully OOW duties and those related to navigation in all weather conditions

  • Guidelines: This workpackage on the theme of shipping operations and costs offers both the learner and the teacher multiple opportunities to enhance communicative skills through task-based learning. Maritime English activities including compiling a glossary, dictation, reading comprehension, note-taking, giving a presentation, producing a report and designing a poster provide the learner and teacher with an entertaining range of materials. Some of the tasks in the latter part of the workpackage are also suited to students at management level.
